Bursary and scholarship applications to attend the congress are available to Abstract applicants. Applicants need to indicate whether they wish to be considered for one of the available scholarship options, by selecting the relevant bursary/scholarship application drop-down menu during their online Abstract submission process. Applicants will be informed as soon as possible as to the outcome of applications in order to allow successful candidates sufficient time for visa applications and travel arrangements.

SCHOLARSHIPS
The Syed Sattar Scholarship – Courtesy of Virox

This prestigious full scholarship is in the name of one of the leading lights in disinfection over the past 4 decades.  Abstracts are invited from young African scientists working in Africa on infection control projects or specifically on disinfectants, disinfecton or sterilization systems.

The successful candidate will receive the following:

  • The return airfare (economy class): the airfare will be reimbursed to the candidate once they have arrived at the conference and present a receipt;
  • Full conference registration, accommodation and subsistence for 4 nights;
  • Complimentary attendance of social functions
    The winning abstract will be published in the Antimicrobial Resistance & Infections Control Journal

 

The Copper Development Association Africa Scholarship – Courtesy of CDAA

This annual scholarship is awarded to a young African researcher who is currently working on healthcare facility designs, environmental cleaning and the reduction of environmental bioburden, any research related to reducing infectious disease by means of infrastructure or structural improvement.

The successful candidate will receive the following:

  • The return airfare (economy class): the airfare will be reimbursed to the candidate once they have arrived at the conference and present a receipt;
  • Full conference registration, accommodation and subsistence for 4 nights;
  • Complimentary attendance of social functions
    The winning abstract will be published in the Antimicrobial Resistance & Infections Control Journal

 

Infection Control Africa Network Scholarship – (ICAN)

The ICAN scholarship is offered at each ICAN international conference to the young African scientist or researcher who has shown innovative and independent thought, developed concepts of effective IPC systems for Africa, or is workign on unique solutions for the African IPC challenges.

The successful candidate will receive the following:

  • The return airfare (economy class): the airfare will be reimbursed to the candidate once they have arrived at the conference and present a receipt;
  • Full conference registration, accommodation and subsistence for 4 nights;
  • Complimentary attendance of social functions
    The winning abstract will be published in the Antimicrobial Resistance & Infections Control Journal

 

BURSARIES

The Scientific Committee will select from the submitted abstracts that cover original and innovative research to receive either a full or partial bursary.  There is no age restriction, but young African healthcare workers, scientists and researchers are encouraged to apply, preferably in working in Africa.  Those working on operational research and practical projects will be considered favourably.

Full Bursaries

There are 4 full bursaries available to attend the Congress.

Criteria, (if selected), the applicant

    • will confirm that s/he has not received a bursary from ICAN in the past 5 years;
    • has not published the finding previously in any other forum;
    • is prepared to allow publication of the abstract in a peer review journal;
    • will be present at the ICAN conference and will write a report for the ICAN website at the end of the conference;
    • will inform the ICAN committee well in advance, by June 2016 if unable to attend so that the funds can be given to other candidates.

    There are 20 partial  bursaries available, open to all applicants who submit an abstract to attend the Congress.
